A grand night out…

Many thanks to all who supported our spring quiz on Saturday 27th April. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and together we raised a “grand” total of £1,012 for the animals in our Branch area.

The winners on the night were the Rebels, in a close run competition that saw the top five teams all within five points of each other. Congratulations, too, to the Happi Days team who brought up the rear.

Many thanks to Geoffrey for writing and hosting the quiz, to Kate for promoting and booking in the teams, to Dawn for doing the raffle and Ray for donating the bottles of wine for the winners. The kitchen team of Stephen, Susanne, Diane, Jan and Mary, cooked and served almost 100 piping hot baked potatoes, and many thanks to them. The hall hire fee was donated by a regular supporter.

The raffle on the night raised £260 (included in the total above), and we very much appreciate everyone who donated a prize, including East of England Co-operative Society whose gift voucher bought three prizes.

Watch the website for details of more quizzes and events this year, and if you would like to help out, please contact Jane on 07592 517836 or via volunteering@rspca-suffolkcentral.org.uk Without the hard work and enthusiasm of our volunteers, we would not be able to help the number of animals and families with pets that we do. Please consider joining our volunteer team, no matter how many or few hours you feel you can give, especially in 2024, our 200th anniversary year.

Woolpack Quiz night raises over £800!

Many thanks to all the quizzers and volunteers who helped raise a magnificent £812 at our quiz night hosted by The Woolpack in Ipswich on Sunday 11 February.

It was a sell out night, with the winning team ‘Cats and Dogs’ taking the honours and winning bottles of Prosecco kindly donated by Punch Pubs.

Many thanks to Will and the whole team at The Woolpack for being such kind and generous hosts,  Brian for stepping up to be quiz master (and writing questions); Sarah and Fran for kindly volunteering to set up, run the raffle and generally be amazing helpers; and Terry for providing the Geography questions! The whole branch team helped in writing a variety of the question rounds – so thanks to everyone involved.

Big thanks also to the companies that kindly donated such amazing raffle prizes – Ufford Park Resort, Dial Lane Books, The New Wolsey Theatre and Artisan Savant florists. The fundraising total wouldn’t have been as high without your generosity.https://artisansavant.co.uk/https://www.wolseytheatre.co.uk/

And the results are in! – Quiz raises over £900

Many thanks to all the quizzers and volunteers who helped raise a magnificent £912.30 at our quiz on Saturday 25 November.

Despite the freezing weather, 18 teams battled for the top spot with the 50 Percenters taking the honours and the winners’ bottles of wine. Team Coco gallantly brought up the rear and won themselves a consolation prize of tiny chocolate bars.

Many thanks to Lorna, Rach, Sarah, Jan and Stephen for helping set up and run the kitchen and to Rach also for baking. It was certainly quicker and easier with such a good team. Many thanks to Dawn and Ray for doing the raffle and donating the winners’ prizes and to Geoffrey for writing the quiz.

Final thanks to everyone who donated a raffle prize, especially Deben Inns and East of England Co-Op for their vouchers and TESCO Martlesham Heath for the Baileys and chocolates.

Christmas Sparkle in Bury St. Edmunds

Our new Bury St. Edmunds shop team and generous volunteers manned a stall at the town’s light switch on event on Thursday 16th November.   We were keen to update everyone on our new charity and coffee shop that will be opening on Bartons Retail Park on 15th December.   We chatted to lots of lovely people about volunteering opportunities at our new shop, and appealed for stock donations.

The festive stall sold Christmas cards, wrap, pet toys and branded goods – and our competition to guess 3 scents to win free entry into our prize draw proved very popular.   The amazing prizes of an afternoon tea for two (donated by The Ickworth Hotel) and luxury scented candles (kindly donated by Illumens) really attracted the crowds – and dogs – despite the rain!

Successful Christmas Fair raises over £1400

Many thanks to everyone who attended or helped at our Christmas Fair at Holbrook Village Hall on Saturday 18 November. We raised a magnificent £1457.06 for our animals.

Despite the very wet morning, attendance was better than last year, and a great thank you to the stallholders whose excellent selection of high quality goods added to the upbeat feel of the event.

Huge thanks to everyone who made goodies for and served on our popular refreshments stall, especially Jean, Diane, Susanne, Janet, Maggie, Sue and Stephen. Our gratitude also goes to Geoffrey and Richard who ran the new goods stall, and Stephen and Fran on tombola and for setting out the tables and chairs. Many thanks to Bob who helped on the raffle (despite only coming to visit the event with his family), to all who donated prizes and to Sue for seeing them safely delivered to the winners.

Keep watching our website for the latest information on our 2024 events; it’s going to be an exciting year as the RSPCA is celebrating our 200th anniversary and we plan to have some amazing events.

Open Day & Fun Dog Show – The Result

A great day was had by all and we would like to thank everyone who helped in so many ways before, during and after the event.

A wonderful £2,200 was raised which will go towards helping animals in need in Suffolk.

The dog show was, as usual, very well attended and Best In Show went to Oscar, a lovely black retriever who had previously won the Second Chance (for rescue dogs) class.

Earl Stonham Dog Show raises almost £700

The strong winds and occasional showers didn’t dampen the spirits at our Fun Dog Show and Fair at Earl Stonham Village Hall on Sunday. We raised £678 for the local animals and a huge thank you to everyone who attended and to those who helped on the day.

The Dog Show was extremely popular and ably judged by Gill and Geoffrey.  Gemma, our Branch Manager, and Diane, a kennel volunteer, chose the Best in Show winner, Morzsi, a characterful crossbreed who, despite having epilepsy, is a very relaxed, happy little dog with a lovely bond with her owners who clearly adore her. Skinner’s Pet Food at Stradbrooke kindly donated prizes to the winners.

We couldn’t stage any of our events without our lovely volunteers. Many thanks to our helpers: Jean, Diane, Sue and Suzanne for their baking and other lovely eatables, John and Yvonne for their bric-a-brac stall, and Stephen, Bob, Maggie, Richard and Janice for helping on the RSPCA stalls. Ian and Sarah ran a great hoopla – not easy in the tricky winds – helped by Carilyn. To discover more about ways to volunteer with the Branch, please contact volunteering@rspca-suffolkcentral.org.uk

More thanks go to the stallholders who brought a fantastic range of quality goods.

This was a lovely day and we saw many beautiful and well-behaved dogs. The good news is that the interest – and money made for our animals – is growing and we hope that we’ll be back next year – bigger and better!

Watch out for our next event – our Open Day and Fun Dog show at the Martlesham Animal Centre on Sunday 3 September.
